Wakf Board’s expenditure is more than its income

Srinagar, June 7: Claiming that no land of Wakf Board is under illegal occupation of any department, individual or Army in Jammu and Kashmir, the State Government today disclosed that the expenditure of the Board is more than its income generated in year 2015-16.
In reply to a question of MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga, the Minister Incharge Haj and Auqaf said the Board generated a total of Rs. 2328.10 lakh income in year 2015-16 from its properties. However he, at the same time, revealed that the total expenditure incurred for the year 2015-16 has been Rs. 2348.42 lakh.
He said that Wakf has 594 regular and 327 consolidated/ contractual employees and 42 cases of the Board are pending in the courts. “Out of which nine are pending in High Court and rest 33 cases are pending before various sub-ordinate courts”, said the Minister.
He informed: “These (33) cases are accordingly being contended as per Section 22 (G) of Jammu and Kashmir Specified Wakf Properties (Management and Regulation Amendment) Act, 2005,” adding “some of the suits have been dismissed on this Count as well. However, nine writ petitions pending before High Court are being pursued vigorously.”
