Walkouts, protests dominate Assembly

JAMMU, Mar 8:  Walkouts and protests by legislators of various political parties on different issues today dominated the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly here.

Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs Jugal Kishore and Ashok Khajuria staged walkout of the House on discrimination with Jammu region in Tourism Sector.

MLA Jugal Kishore said the Government is not raising infrastructure in Tourism Sector in the Jammu region and maximum tourist destinations are being neglected and not developed up to mark.

Jammu State Morcha legislator Ashwani Sharma also raised the issue of neglected Tourism Sector in the region.

“Government is intentionally not developing tourist spots across Jammu region,” the MLA said, adding that Mubarak Mandi and Patnitop Gandola projects are in hanging and there is no policy in boosting tourism.

Amid slogans, the MLAs walked out of the House.

BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria also staged walkout alleging that anti-national discussions are being held in the House and issues related to a common man are not seriously taken up.

MLA Poonch Aijaz Jan staged walkout on poor health infrastructure in his constituency.

“Health infrastructure is in shambles in Poonch district,” he said, adding that there is no sufficient availability of medical facilities.

He however, staged walkout in protest.

Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party MLA Harsh Dev Singh also criticised the government for poor health facilities in far flung areas.

“Most of the health centres are functioning in temporary (mud) structures in remote belts of various districts and no funds have been released to develop health structure,” Mr Singh said.

He said every year assurances are being given in the House but nothing concrete has been done so far on ground adding, “people in far flung areas have to walk miles for medicines and proper treatment.”

The MLA later walked out of the House.

Peoples Democratic Party legislators Mushtaq Ahmad Shah also staged walkout of the House as his listed question was not entertained.

Legislators Javed Mustafa Mir and Mushtaq Bukhari also walked out on separate issues.

Independent MLA Engineer created uproar in the House demanding discussion on prevailing Kashmir situation.

However, Speaker Mubarak Gul disallowed discussion asserting that routine business is must and issues of common man have to be addressed.

Panthers Party MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia also created noisy scenes on government’s assurance of opening tourist centre in Udhampur district.

“Government has assured for a Tourist Center in Udhampur but till date not even land has been transferred for raising the infrastructure. Officials delaying the project must be punished and action must be taken against them,” he demanded. (AGENCIES)
