NEW DELHI: A day after clashes erupted in Kashmir Valley over the killing of Hizbul Mujahiddin militant Burhan Wani, the BJP today urged both police and the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise restrain and calm for return of normalcy in the State.
Expressing his concern over the loss of lives in South Kashmir, BJP point person for J&K Ram Madhav called the incidents as unfortunate and saddening, but emphasised that the government wants peaceful and terror free Kashmir.
“Loss of lives in South Kashmir is unfortunate and saddening. We have to develop non-lethal ways of tackling such situations. Police too suffer heavily,” said Mr Madhav, who played a crucial role in the government formation with the People’s Democratic Party led by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
“People in the Valley should help bring normalcy. Restraint and calm should be the motto of people and police. Government wants peaceful and terror-free J&K for progress,” the BJP General Secretary said in his series of tweets.
Eleven people were killed and over 200 wounded in widespread clashes between protesters and the security forces in Kahmir Valley yesterday after the death of Hizbul militant in an encounter on Friday. (AGENCIES)
