JAMMU, Apr 8: Notified as Waqf property decades back, the Ziyarat Shareef was brought under control after High Court vacated the status quo order.
On the directions of the Chairperson, J&K Waqf Board, Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, the administrative control of Ziyarat Shareef Rayil Gund Kangan was today taken over by Waqf Board at Gund in Ganderbal. It comprises of Ziyarat Shareef of Hazrat Syed Jaffar (R.A), Hazrat Syed Rehman (R.A) and Hazrat Syed- Ul- Hajra (R.A), a Waqf Board spokesman said.
The litigation pertaining to its administrative control continued for years in the High Court of J&K, and the shrine was under the control of a single family, that was collecting all donations offered by devotees for their personal use, he added.
Waqf authorities over the years had adopted lackadaisical approach in pursuing the matter at the Court giving the family a free hand to collect the donations in cash and coin without being accountable to anyone. However, soon after the constitution of J&K Waqf Board, Dr Andrabi issued instructions for pursuing the matter vigorously in the Court.
After taking administrative control of the shrine Dr Andrabi extended gratitude to the judiciary for this historic decision. She thanked the district administration and the Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal and his team for supporting the Waqf Board in the takeover process.
