Ward 54: Proposal for tube-well, OHT saw no progress even after 8 months

On 20 kanal JDA land in Trikuta Nagar, locals demand playground

JAMMU, Jan 1: There is a single tube-well feeding majority of the area in posh Trikuta Nagar and normal life there, especially in Ward number 54 of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), gets badly hit whenever the only tube-well in the area becomes non-functional due to some technical snag.
Expressing concern over this issue, Neeraj Lucky Puri, Councillor of the Ward, said that a proposal for tube-well with an Over Head Tank (OHT) was sent to the concerned authorities some eight months back but till date nothing fruitful emerged in this regard.
He also said that replacement of old water supply pipes in the Ward is urgently required as these pipes have by now turned more than 50 years old and have also developed leakage at some places.
In an exclusive interaction with the Excelsior, Puri, who politically belongs to BJP and is a first time Councillor, informed that a Nallah in his Ward gets flooded in rainy season and the water gushes into residential houses thereby inflicting damage.
“Big pipes are placed to work as Nallah but a proper Nallah is urgently needed there so that these floods can be prevented,” he continued.
Puri said that his Ward includes the areas of Trikuta Nagar Sectors 5-9, 5A, Extension of Sector 7, Railway Colony and Shiva Colony.
He said that presently a playground in the Ward has become a popular and repeated demand of the locals there.
“There is a big piece of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) land measuring about 15-20 kanal which should be made a playground as the colony already belongs to JDA,” the Councillor maintained adding that many senior citizens from the Ward have also demanded the playground as they too would use it for walks etc.
He claimed that there are many active drug addicts and peddlers in the Ward for which the police should take cognizance and the playground in the area will give a place to the youth to remain engaged in sports activities thereby maintaining distance form addiction.
The Councillor said that repair and construction work for lanes and drains is almost complete in his Ward and same is the status of blacktopping there.
Puri also said that Street Lights have been installed in 85 per cent of the Ward and 20 per cent of the installed lights have become non-functional and their repair is being delayed by the concerned agency.
He said that stray dogs have created a lot of problems in the Ward.
“These canines not only litter here and there but also bite people and chase two wheelers and have created a wave of terror among women, children and old age people,” Puri continued.
He also said that buffaloes, horses and other cattle from Panama Chowk area are left by their owners and they roam freely in Trikuta Nagar area and litter on roads besides causing traffic jams.
The Councillor informed that there are six Public Parks in his Ward and the one among these in Sector 6 of Trikuta Nagar is in worst condition while the rest are partially maintained but need proper development which has not been done so far due to lack of funds.
“There is no parking place for vehicles and no Community Hall in the Ward but there is a Public Toilet and one more is needed to facilitate the public and Public Bathroom is very much in the Ward at a temple there,” Neeraj Lucky Puri claimed.
“There are 36 Safai Karamcharis in my Ward but 8 more are needed there for better cleanliness,” he maintained adding: “Still the cleanliness in the Ward is good due to the proper use of available workforce.”
The Councillor said that autos collecting garbage by moving from door-to-door are doing a good job and from the day this service was introduced, garbage dumps have been reduced in the Ward.
He said that there are unscheduled power-cuts in his Ward during summers.
Puri said that on a graveyard in the Ward Rs. 15 lakh were spent for development works but still more is required to be done there.
He further said that almost all the residents of his Ward have made their Aadhar and Ayushman Cards and most of the eligible Voters have got their Voter Cards and same is the status of Domicile Certificates there.
“Still some 2-3 more camps are needed in this regard to cover the leftover people,” Puri continued.
The JMC Councillor said that three more High Mast Lights are needed in his Ward while hanging wires and damaged poles are also there which need immediate corrective measures but the concerned department has least bothered to do it.
“There are some vacant plots in my Ward where labourers live and they have illegal power and water connections,” Puri further said adding: “As these plots do not have toilet facility, these labourers defecate in open.”
He said that there are some Water Coolers in the Ward but two more are needed there to facilitate the public.
“House numbering has not been done for the new houses in the colony,” the Councillor further said.
He claimed that there are reports of thefts involving iron gratings from the drains in his Ward.
