SRINAGAR, Apr 24: A special TADA court in Srinagar today issued non-bailable arrest warrant against 15 suppliers and manufacturers of a spurious drug Maxamizine-625 to Government hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir.
It may be mentioned here that Excelsior broke the spurious drug scam early this month leading to registering of cases against suppliers and manufacturers of Maxamizine-625 drug that was supplied to hospitals across Kashmir valley. The antibiotic tested negative for Amoxicillin while the company had claimed that it contains 500 mg of Amoxicillin.
The Standing Council for Drug Controller Kashmir, Advocate Musavir Joo told Excelsior that the Drug Inspector Sammer Ahmad produced challan against 15 persons – Amardeep Raina, Ashok Kumar Raina, Prem Prakash, Munjal Barnawal, Ashok Kumar, Manooj Kumar, MD Medli Rahul Kumar Singh, Arvind Billa, Villas, Suneet Bhardwaj, Sanjay Mishra, Bimal Kumar, Suraj Enterprises – in the TADA court Srinagar this morning. He said that under the SRO-171 issued in June 2011 the department can file challans in the special TADA Court in Srinagar.
Justice Muzaffer Iqbal Qureshi in the case State through Drug Inspector Zone-6 versus Akhil Gudda and others issued non-bailable arrest warrants against the 15 accused persons who have been found involved in the supply and manufacturing of the spurious drug Maxamizine-625.
This is the first challan of such a nature filed in the Srinagar TADA court by Drug Controller Kashmir and court has ordered for immediate arrest of all the accused with immediate effect and has directed Jammu and Kashmir Police to produce the accused in the Court of law on May 27.
The challan has been filed against Life line Pharma Muthi Jammu, Sanative Pharma Himachal, Medley, Aff Parents Himachal, and Souraj Enterprises for supplying spurious Maxamizine-625 to Jammu and Kashmir hospitals.
Two persons, Amardeep Raina and Ashok Kumar Raina have already been arrested by Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The Complaint against the accused was registered under 17 b, 18 a I-Section and 27A of Drug and Cosmetic Act. If proved guilty the accused persons can be booked for 10 years or can even face life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh as fine.
The drug, Maximizine 625 mg, along with several other drugs were chosen in random sampling for laboratory testing by the Drug Controller Kashmir during winter. The drugs were sent to the laboratory for testing and the anti-biotic tested negative as the laboratory report revealed that it contains “NIL” Amoxicillin. The drug contained Zero mg of Amoxicillin tri-hydrate while the company claims that it contains 500 mg of Amoxicillin tri-hydrate + 125 mg clavulanic acid.
