This refers to article kashmir waste woes continue by Raja Muzaffar Bhat (Daily Excelsior 28/01/2020). I have been following the author from quite sometime as he constantly highlights the issue of municipal solid waste management. Kashmir valley in particular and Jammu & Kashmir state in general needs a special focus of authorities for scientific solid waste management.
United Nations Development Program (UNDP) few years back started a project called Secure Himalayas wherein various developmental activities were to be taken up in Jammu Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other Himalayan states. There is a special mention about solid waste management & conservation of biological and natural resources in these activities but I am not sure if any of the project has been initiated in J & K or not?
J & K Government and central government both should take issue of solid waste management very seriously and all the municipal authorities should be directed not to dump municipal solid waste in and around water bodies.
