JAMMU, Mar 6: In a meeting held to discuss drinking water supply the members of All India Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AIMCCC) expressed anguish towards over the water scarcity being faced by the inmatesof Jagti township.
The meeting which was presided over by Desh Rattan Pandita said that for last six days the township is facing acute water crisis and no efforts were made to restore the same even on holy festival of Maha Shivratri.
There is acute drinking water crisis at Jagti for last three days and residents are compelled to purchase same privately on high prices, Rattan said. People suffer badly for drinking water. Whenever there is rain/ flood in river Tawi, people have to suffer for weeks together for restoration of water. Water, as is said, is life line for survival, has made our life miserable by the present supply scheme. The present water supply scheme is totally a failure as has been seen for last 13 or 14 years and for that very particular reason AIMCCC has been struggling hard for ground water (Borewells) so that pure drinking water is supplied and Government money too is saved as present system is total failure, he added.
He said unfortunately the file of digging four Borewells at Jagti at a cost of 7.5 crores (approved by then Advisor to Governor B. B. Vyas) has not been shown light of the day till today, for the reasons best known to the Government. He expressed the hope that the new Relief Commissioner (Migrants) Jammu will look into and get the things back on normal track.
He also expressed concern over non release of salaries to Government employees on the eve of Maha Shivratri.
