Water recedes below danger mark

Srinagar, July 1: The water level in river Jhelum today receded below danger mark in Srinagar and South Kashmir bringing respite to the people while Government closed down schools in Kashmir valley tomorrow as a precautionary measure.
The water level in Jhelum receded three feet in Srinagar since last night and it is now flowing below danger mark of 18 feet. The water level at Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar was recorded at 17. 96 feet and 15.05 feet at Sangam where it was 22.13 feet last night and at Asham it was flowing at 13 feet.
The water level has receded after improvement in weather since yesterday afternoon. However, in several localities in Bemina, Shalteng and Kursu Rajagh are still water logged.
In the meantime, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan, has ordered the closure of all Government and private schools in district Srinagar tomorrow.
An order issued by the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir said all schools both Government and private shall remain closed in view of the flood alert in different parts of Kashmir valley.
