UDHAMPUR, Dec 2: A meeting of Water Works (PHE) Employees Association was held here today under the chairmanship of Som Nath, senior vice-president of the Association, Jammu province.
The meeting, which was attended by executive body members of district Udhampur and Reasi, highlighted various demands and grievances of the PHE employees, particularly unprecedented delay in release of pending wages of the daily rated workers in the PHE Department.
While addressing the meeting, Som Nath strongly criticized the State Government for its delaying tactics in releasing the wages for the last 43 months, due to which approximately one lakh workers of different departments are suffering. “The present Government has utterly failed to address the grievances of these daily rated workers,” he alleged.
Vijay Sharma, general secretary of the Association, said that biometric of the some workers was yet to be completed and the concerned authorities should extend the last date for the same.
Besides release of pending wages of the workers, the meet also highlighted some other demands, which included regularization of workers who have completed five years as daily rated workers, engagement of sufficient number of workers for smooth running of water supply machines, increase in minimum wages, change of designation of the employees as per nature of their work, DPC and implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations.
Som Nath appealed all unions of the PHE employees to remain united for a joint struggle to get their genuine demands conceded.
Others, who spoke on the occasion, included Suraj Parkash, Krishan Chand, Chuni Lal, Dinesh Kesar, Shamsher Singh, Janit Ali, Balbir Chand, Parkash Chand, Luxman Singh, Prem Nath, Amit Dubey and Charan Dass.
