WD to approach Kashmir; weather pleasant

SRINAGAR: A fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is likely hit by tomorrow evening in the Kashmir valley, where weather remained pleasant though the mercury remained above normal.
A Met department spokesperson said here this afternoon that weather will be mainly dry over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
However, during the subsequent four days there could be isolated to scattered rain or thundershowers from tomorrow evening.
It was yet another pleasant morning in the Kashmir valley, where the mercury remained above normal though winds also continued. Large rush of tourists and locals could be seen in Mughal gardens on the bank of Dal Lake and other tourist resorts in the valley.
He said the summer capital, Srinagar, witnessed increase in the minimum temperature after recording 28.5 degree maximum temperature, five notches above normal yesterday.
Against yesterday’s 12.4 degree Celsius minimum temperature, it was 15.4 degree, more than four degree above normal.
He said there is possibility of thunder in the afternoon in the city tomorrow and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 27 degree and 15 degree respectively.
At the world famous health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of annual holy Amarnath yatra, starting from July 2, the minimum temperature was 7.8 degree, about three degree above normal. Gulmarg, a major tourist attraction in north Kashmir, the minimum temperature recorded more than two notches increase during the past 24 hours.
Against yesterdays 7.2 degree, it was 9.4 degree, about four notches above normal.
He said at Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir, the minimum temperature was 12 degree, two notches above normal, Kokernag 11.9 degree against normal of 10 degree while at Kupwara it was 13.3 degree, more than three degree above normal. There was also considerable increase in the minimum temperature at Leh, where it was 7.2 degree against yesterday’s 2.7 degree while at border town of Kargil it was 6.1 degree against 5.5 degree recorded yesterday.
He said the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 20 degree and 15 degree respectively at Leh.
The spokesperson said there is possibility of thunder in the afternoon at winter capital, Jammu and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 35 degree and 24 degree respectively. (AGENCIES)
