JAMMU, Oct 11: Claiming that he will bring back Roshni Act, if his party is voted to power, former J&K Chief Minister and DPAP chairperson Ghulam Nabi Azad today called for a united fight against militancy in the Jammu and Kashmir.
“The security situation has improved during the last five years. But for the past one and a half years, particularly in the Rajouri and Poonch, several incidents have taken place. The incident in Kokernag area of Kashmir also took place. We are concerned about it,” Azad told media-persons on the sidelines of a meeting with several delegations here.
Referring to the present security situation in J&K Azad said, ” It appears militancy is again attempting to raise its head. We all, the people of J&K, the government and politicians should jointly fight it out. It is not solely the responsibility of the government, but all of us,” Azad said.
Replying to a question on dharna by the main opposition parties in Jammu, including the National Conference, the Congress and the PDP on Tuesday for restoration of democratic and constitutional rights in the J&K, Azad said, “The leaders who had given the call for the protest dharna were themselves missing.”
“This shows their seriousness,” he said in an apparent reference to NC president Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, who could not make it to the dharna.
Azad, who met several delegations, particularly of the Gujjar-Bakarwals said the government should look into the issues of this community and address their grievances.
Former Chief Minister said he will bring back the Roshni Act Scheme that had “benefited thousands of poor people across Jammu and Kashmir, if his party is voted to power in the elections. Azad also held the meeting of office bearers from Jammu and instructed them to intensify the party activities and ensure more and more people are joining to bring the change in Jammu and Kashmir.
