SRINAGAR: At a time when heat wave has claimed dozens of lives in different parts of the country, weather turned pleasant and mercury was also up in the Kashmir valley, where dry weather will continue during the next two days.
People woke up to a sunny morning though majority people continued to wear warm and woolen clothes in the valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where Mughal gardens were formally opened for public on the occasion of Baisakhi festival.
However, people remained indoor due to general strike today in protest against the killing of two youths and a woman in alleged firing by Army in the frontier district of Kupwara yesterday.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that minimum temperature remained above normal in the valley, where weather will remain dry during the next 48 hours.
However, a fresh Western Diturbance (WD) is likely to hit the region which could result in wet weather for four days from April 16 in the Jammu and Kashmir.
He said due to dry weather during the past 24 hours the mercury witnessed considerable increase. World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, recorded lowest 2.5 degree minimum temperature in the valley. However, it was 1.5 degree above normal against yesterday’s 0.5 degree below normal.(Agencies)
