Webinar on Aarogya Ka Abhishek held

JAMMU, Feb 28 A webinar on community health under the auspices of its NSS UNIT “Prayatna” was organized by Government Degree College, Chenani in association with the NGO ‘Global Helping Hands’ and Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specialty Hospital, Katra (J&K). The Program encompassed a pertinent topic “Women and Bone Health” under the theme “Aarogya Ka Abhishek”.
Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner/Secretary, Department of Higher Education, J&K Government graced the occasion as its chief guest.
Dr. Chandra Kanta Gariyali, former Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu was the guest of honor.
Dr. Manish Kumar Varshney, Senior Consultant, Orthopedics and joint replacement, Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana, Super Specialty Hospital, Katra and Dr. Arun Gupta, Medical Officer, Ayush were the resource persons. Both the doctors highlighted the significance of the seminar and dealt in detail the health implications of Osteoporosis, a common chronic disease in aging populations with an increasing incidence worldwide. They emphasized that its prevalence was increasing and is a great socio-economic burden on the country.
The lectures by the resource persons ushered a lengthy question answer round wherein participants interacted with the expert doctors on problems and rehabilitation measures related to bone health.

Talat Parvez Rohella, Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education, speaking on the occasion accentuated that it is indeed a matter of concern and our duty to raise global awareness for the prevention of certain such common ailments. He said that such awareness programs encourage people to take action by learning about the risk factors and changing their lifestyle to a healthy body for life. Better awareness is also linked to better compliance.
