JAMMU, Mar 21: The website of “We The Human”, a registered public trust was launched by R S Jasrotia, Session Judge, in a function organized today here at Amar Singh Club.
The function was attended by a large gathering of people from farmer community and other sections of society. The main concern of all the speakers was regarding deteriorating health of the earth soil due to excessive use of toxic chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides.
Speaking on the occasion, founder member of the Trust, Prem Singh, exhorted the farmer community to use the toxic chemical pesticides, fertilizers and hormonal growth regulators with a caution as the excessive use of these toxic chemicals fertilizers and pesticides have not only spoilt the health of our earth soil but also contaminated ground water and adding up to environmental pollution with danger to human health badly.
Professor Harun Naik, a senior faculty member of SKUAST Srinagar, warned of depleting species of vultures, birds, crows and even honey bees due to excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers. He said that this is high time to go for reversal in agricultural patterns from the Agricultural Package of Green Revolution back to the traditional system of Indian Agricultural Farming.
Lauding the role of Sarveshawar group of companies in organic agricultural produce procurement and marketing, Professor Harun Naik emphasized for need of other major groups also to enter into organic produce procurement and marketing so as to promote the organic farming culture among farmers’ community.
Director (retired) Floriculture, KK Sharma expressed his concern over proposed acquisition of agricultural land for construction of ring roads in J&K and also appealed authorities to ask the NHAI, R&B or other executing agencies of road projects to take utmost precaution in disposal of building construction or hills cutting wastes including boulders.
The occasion was also used to honour a number of farmers for taking up initiatives in organic farming and provide scholarships to some BPL girls.
Pooja Gupta Director from Sarveshawar Exports & Nimbark Organic Foods, Mohammad Afzal Beig (social activist) and Kulbushan Sharma (Farmers’ leader) also addressed the gathering.
