SRINAGAR, May 2: The upcoming Hindi film “Welcome to Kashmir” is set to release soon, showcasing the beauty of Kashmiri culture and featuring local artists in the lead roles.
Directed by a Kashmiri Film maker Tariq Bhat, the film is set to offer a fresh perspective on Kashmir. The film’s unique approach showcases the real image of the people, including issues such as drug abuse and women’s empowerment. Bhat claims that for the first time in Bollywood, Kashmiris will handle all aspects of production, ensuring an authentic representation of the region. “The film aims to promote a positive image of Kashmir to the world, challenging misconceptions about the area and its people,” he said.
Speaking at a press conference in Srinagar, Bhat expressed his hope that the movie will promote a positive image of Kashmir. He announced that the film’s premiere would take place at the INOX cinema in Srinagar “very soon”, while the trailer is set to be released on May 6.
Bhat informed that the film’s main lead roles are played by actress Mateena Rajput and debutant Ahmad Shahab. He said the movie is based on showcasing the real image of the people of Kashmir with the help of Kashmiri music.
He said the film also intends to showcase the issue of drug abuse among youth and the empowerment of women. “The film would be released throughout India, and there are plans to release it in Dubai and London as well,” he said.
Bhat believes that, despite numerous problems in Kashmir, earlier film directors had only focused on one particular problem, and that too in a negative light. “My aim is to present a more balanced and positive view of Kashmir through his film. This movie will be the first Bollywood film to showcase the real image of Kashmir in a positive way,” he said.
The film also features a full Kashmiri language song with subtitles, sung by famous singer Ishfaq Kawa. This will be the first time in Bollywood history that a film will feature a full-length Kashmiri song. Bhat emphasized that this film is an opportunity for all Kashmiris to get involved in the making of a Bollywood movie, exploring the beauty of their land in a positive light.
