SAMBA, Mar 3: President West Pak refugees, Labha Ram Gandhi today warned the Government that in case its attitude will not change towards these hapless people, the refugee youth will be forced to march towards New Delhi to hold protest there in support of their long pending demand of grant of citizenship rights.
Addressing a mammoth rally at Sankha Morh near Vijaypur in Samba district today, Gandhi also strongly advocated for brining J&K State at par with other States of the country by doing away with its special position granted to it under Indian Constitution which he said is the root cause of the problem of West Pak refugees. He, while demanding total integration of J&K with rest of the country by abrogating the Article of Indian Constitution which grants special position to it, said this temporary provision of the Indian Constitution brought through presidential Ordinance if not abrogated will create a problem at national level in future. The Central Government without waiting any more should take an immediate step in this regard, he added.
Gandhi, while criticizing the Government said that despite the fact that Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh announced grant of compensation to West Pak refugees one year back, hardly 15 files would have been cleared by the authorities in one year. He alleged that unnecessarily the release of compensation is being delayed by the officers at the helm of affairs.
He sought the intervention of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in the matter alleging that the State administration was not taking pains in releasing the compensation.
While referring to Pradan Mantri Kissan Nidhi Yojna, Gandhi said that no provision has been kept for the West Pak refugees in it who too are cultivating the land in the State under land to tiller formula and other means. This is a great injustice with these hapless people, he added and demanded that the matter be looked into.
He said how long the West Pak refugees will be subjected to this kind of injustice and deprived of the citizenship rights which is the cause of special constitutional position given to the State.
Gandhi further said that the West Pak refugees are also being deprived of reservation benefits granted to IB people by the administration and they are being told that they have no right for the same. He said these refugees were settled on IB by the Government and why they are being deprived of the reservation benefits which have been given to people living within five kms of IB. He also sought intervention of Union Government in this regard and demanded the settlement of the issue.
