JAMMU, Mar 5: Western Command General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Lt Gen Nav K Khanduri today reviewed the operational preparedness of the Tiger Division here including the areas in Jammu and Samba districts which shared long boundary with Pakistan.
General Officer Commanding of Tiger Division Maj General Neeraj Gosain briefed the Western Army Commander about the operational preparedness of the division, a Defence spokesman said.
He said the Army Commander visited the Tiger Division and was received by Chief of Staff, Rising Star Corps, Maj Gen Manoj Tiwari.
Lt Gen Khanduri also visited Balidan Stambh, Jammu, and paid homage to the bravehearts who have made supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
The Western Army Command has operational control over Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu division having nearly 200 kilometres long International Border with Pakistan.
The Tiger Division looks after parts of Jammu and Samba districts where the International Border is near normal barring drone activities or infiltration attempts which have been foiled by the Border Security Force (BSF).
The BSF is on frontline along the International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts.
Though no major intrusion bids by the militants have been reported along the International Border, drone activities are spotted quite often but majority of the attempts are foiled by the BSF with firing.
Meanwhile, the Western Army Commander along with Vijaya Khanduri, Regional President Army Wives Welfare Association, Western Command also interacted with veterans, Veer Naris, widows and wards of ex-servicemen at Kaluchak Military Station. The needy disabled Veer Naris, widows and wards were felicitated with wheel chairs by the Regional President AWWA, Western Command and assured of full support from the organisation.
Yesterday, the Western Command chief had honoured distinguished and gallant soldiers at an investiture ceremony held at Mamun Military Station in Pathankot in a function organized by the Gurj Division under the aegis of Rising Start Corps of the Western Command.
