NEW DELHI, Nov 6: Refuting the view by Western world that Asian countries are using Islam for encouraging terrorism, Vice-President M Hamid Ansari has said there is no place for intolerance in Islam.
Addressing reports on board the special aircraft, on his return from Bali to New Delhi, Dr Ansari said 70 per cent of Muslims in the world reside in Asian countries and hence the notion that West Asian countries are determining the agenda for terrorism for Islam is wrong.
Dr Ansari said during his meeting with Muslim community in Indonesia on his visit, they expressed concern over the fact that terrorism is linked to religion like Islam.
He told them that it was primarily the opinion of the Western world that the agenda for Islam is being determined in West Asia.
Dr Ansari told the Muslim community in Indonesia that a sizeable section of the Muslim population of the world lives in countries like Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and China which are not a part of West Asia. (UNI)
