I am not crazy about being there on the social media all the time or fond of getting noticed by every Tom Dick and Harry but I use it as an inherent requirement, as a means of social communication necessitated in the present times. Once in a blue moon I do put my status on WhatsApp on some special occasions devoted to important themes such as environment, pollution, national days, social issues etc.. Same I did a few days back on Nov 19 that was the International Men’s Day. To my surprise there were just two, I repeat just TWO,
responses from my acquaintances — Poonam Dogra and Narinder Bharati. This was in spite of the fact that more than a hundred and sixty people had seen it. More shocking was to recall my previous WhatsApp status in March this year on the International Women’s Day, when there was an overwhelming response laced with biq quotes of Women Empowerment & Naari Shakti. Many of my friends and colleagues had appreciated me for my monthly Radio Show on Women Safety and Empowerment. But this time such plight of men that too on the International Men’s Day, was truly depressing and disheartening.
(In a Lighter Vein)
I am habitual of sparing no occasion to put my surroundings into a lighter or laughter mood by cracking a joke or playing a prank. In the evening, I shared this anomaly with my colleagues who were present in the off. Luckily or unluckily, there was none from the women folk during this off-beat conversation. “Really…! Is there a day like that..? “, was everybody’s reaction. However to celebrate this International embarrassment, we got some sweets to mark the occasion and tingle our sweet taste buds. However on a realistic note, it was extremely disheartening to see the apathy of all towards this day. I was thinking deep inside my mind whether to celebrate or to mourn the plight of men in the contemporary world. None of the newspapers had devoted a single column or an article to this particular day …there was not even a mention of the day. I then checked PM’s X (twitter) platform which usually doesn’t miss any occasion and is loaded with messages in abundance. I found there tribute to Late Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi and Jhansi Ki Rani Laxmibai on their birth anniversaries. There unmistakably was a message on World Toilet Day but alas there was no mention of the Men…the unwanted stuff, so to say.
There are chances that I may have skipped or not been able to trace on-line tribute elsewhere on the internet, being technically not that capable, but a biting reality does exist vis-à-vis the global masculine influence. There is a perceived reality of a Patriarchal dominance in the society and men being in a position of power and privilege. So how can men have issues and problems, if they are in power and prominence?
That is the prevailing train of thought that makes our current society inimical about the problems and issues plaguing the men and their world.
Considering this globe as a mother, I uttered…. Kya itna bura hoon main maa..? (My Mother, am I that awful !!!)
