Whisking away patient in filmi style: GMC lodges FIR

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 3 :  In a bizarre incident, a patient admitted in Medical Unit-I of the Government Medical College Hospital  was whisked away by some unknown person in a trolley stretcher and abandoned near the lift after snatching his medical record file.
Giving details of the incident, Incharge Principal, Govt. Medical College Jammu Dr. Aniece Chowdhary said that probe conducted into the episode revealed that the patient had been removed with malicious intentions to create panic and to malign the hospital.
The ‘abandonment’ of the patient was sensationalized as maltreatment meted out to him at the hospital, he maintained.
He said soon after the incident was reported, a committee comprising Dy Medical Superintendent, Officer Incharge Casualty and office Incharge Control Room/Sanitation was constituted to look into the matter immediately.
As per the report submitted by the committee, the unknown patient alongwith his treatment record was taken away by one person with dark complexion, wearing white clothes on trolley to the lift area in the corridor of Medical College Hospital. The committee observed that the suspicious person might have some vested interest to defame Medical College Hospital Jammu.
The Principal informed that the said patient was under treatment in MU-I under MRD NO: 633965, MLC No: 3987 since 27 August  2012 and has  now been re-admitted in MU-III as the previous treatment record was not found with him, for which FIR has been lodged in Police Post Medical College Hospital Jammu.
“This act of some anti social element, trying to depict and allege therein that the patient was thrown by Govt. Medical College administration in the corridors of the Hospital is not only uncalled for but also intolerable. This is against norms and medical ethics”, Dr Choudhry said.
The Principal appealed the common masses to remain vigilant against such miscreants and inform the Hospital Administration or Police Post immediately to identify such unwarranted elements.
Meanwhile, a show cause notices has also been served upon both the Medical Social Workers for dereliction of duty.  Since the  identity of the patient was unknown, he was being looked after by the Medical Social Workers.
