Whistleblowers’ Protection Bill

Sir,
The one good thing the Parliament did to the nation was the passage of whistleblowers’ Protection Bill on the last day of the last parliamentary session of the UPA-II Government. This is indeed a landmark legislation as it seeks to establish a mechanism to encourage persons to disclose information on corruption or wilful misuse of power by public servants including ministers. It provides safeguards against victimisation of the persons who makes the complaint and also seeks to provide punishment for false or frivolous complaints.
The Bill has become a necessity in view of the killing of atleast 40 persons who blew lid in corruption cases. As a result of it, it had discouraged people to file complaints against those involved in corruption cases. The RTI movement which got popular with people started losing its momentum with these killings. The Bill enacted many now give RTI movement another lease of life. There may be now RTI crusaders who would taken on graft cases boldly. The anti-corruption wave which is slowly sweeping the nation will gain further strength with the assistance of this Bill.
Yours etc…
