Whither Jammu Ropeway Project?

This project conceived and planned long time back is perhaps fated to never get rid of hiccups in its operation. Right from Mubarak Mandi to Bahu Fort and then from Peer Kho to Maha Maya Mandir and back to Bahu Fort the project has not been having a smooth sail. Though a trial run by the Cable Car Corporation was initiated successfully, the dream of connecting heritage sites and giving a fillip to local tourism still remains a dream. Agreed, the project had to encounter several difficulties including court proceedings and litigations, yet still its operation is appearing to be unlikely on expected lines.
The project, it may be recalled, was all set to have been inaugurated by the Prime Minister early last year but just a few days earlier, two labourers died in a trolley crash and four more were grievously injured. The technical snag near Mahamaya Temple caused the crash which lays bare faulty planning and incompetent technical inputs. 1.66 Km long cable car project, the second after Gulmarg Kashmir, has two phases Bahu Fort to Mahamaya Temple Park and second from Mahamaya to Peer Kho over the river Tawi covering 1118 metres. We see the fate of Tawi River Artificial Lake project and now that of the much hyped Jammu Ropeway. Both give disappointing signals about the way administration has been feeling ‘concerned’ about boosting Jammu tourism. Could we expect some positive developments, now under the new political structure?
