REASI/UDHAMPUR, Oct 1: Taking a dig at the BJP, which used to claim that it would win 50 plus seats, Congress has questioned where is `50 plus party’ and why it has suddenly gone into low profile and shies away to face elections.
JKPCC chief, Vikar Rasool Wani said this while addressing a largely attended workers conventions of district Reasi and Udhampur today. He was accompanied by PCC working president Raman Bhalla, Manmohan Singh, Indu Pawar, Dina Nath Bhagat, DCC president Rajesh Sadhotra, DCC president Udhampur KC Bhagat, Rakesh Wazir, Bhupinder Singh, Master Saleel , Pritam Singh, MR Salalia and others.
He asked BJP as to why mission 50 plus party is now running away from holding ULB and Panchayat elections on time and finding security reasons and other excuses to defer the ULB polls , scheduled this month. “Why can’t it face elections? Does BJP fear defeat,” he asked.
The administration including the election authority had made all preparations and arrangements including preparations of voter lists, rotation of reserved wards, inviting objections with in short time of four days with further extension of just four days only but suddenly all have gone into hibernation, without even any official deferment of poll exercise.
“BJP’s defeat is certain, whenever polls are held but how long the people shall remain deprived of elections from ULB, Panchayats up to assembly elections, only for the reason that BJP fears defeat ,which will have a negative fall out on Lok Sabha elections,” Wani added.
Demanding immediate announcements of ULB polls Wani said that government and ruling BJP should clarify the situation to the people and political parties, immediately, without any further delay.
PCC working president Raman Bhalla asked the government and the BJP to face the people and explain the reasons for not holding ULB, Panchayat and assembly elections, when they claim normalcy before Supreme Court also.
He asked BJP to give any approximate time schedule for the possibility of holding Assembly elections, this year, next year, next to next year or even later,so that people come to know their intentions, he added.
Senior Congress leaders of district Reasi and Udhampur raised various issues of public concerns and alleged that people are totally fed up of the present regime and BJP Government and want to get rid of it.
