Apropos K B Jandial’s fresh Straight Talk ( DE June 6) ‘Why doesn’t Kashmir stand up for Ramzan initiatives’. In an elaborate analysis of the current situation in the Valley vis a vis sudden declaration of ‘ceasefire’ by Delhi on request of all political parties of the State and in total disregard to the concerns of the security forces who rightly apprehend re-alignment of pernicious forces during suspension of operations; his clarion call is very relevant and timely. The number of killings year wise are important indicators of the levels of violence for any analysis. But these are statistical figures only and do not necessarily reflect the overall ground environ. A very large number of Kashmiri youth, boys and girls both, are proactively engaged in fruitful activities. Securing top academic slot by the daughter of an imprisoned separatist is one of many shining examples. As rightly pointed out in the study, a new force of stone-pelters (killers) has emerged. They appear to be leaderless and feel cheated and disgusted with their erstwhile leaders like Geelani who led them to this self inflicting mode on petty sums. Thirty years is a long time since violence was forced on the valley by Pakistan and it is time for its cessation. Some issues can be resolved in peace time only. Agreeing to unilateral ceasefire by the Centre after contradictory statements is an appreciable move indicating its seriousness of good intentions. It should also be viewed as tactical retreat to take on enemy more effectively without use of gun. May ‘Ceasefire’ prevail for ever and all around.

KB Jandial’s latest Straight Talk ( DE June 06) is a well elaborated analytical piece. It is a meaningful poser to the men who matter in Kashmir situation. Political leaders should contribute to bring peace rather than mere issuing statements against security forces. Why can’t they work for stopping stone pelting? Once again a purposeful Straight Talk by Mr Jandial.
