Wife among 3 held for trader’s murder

RAJOURI, Aug 18: With the arrest of wife, her paramour and a hired associate, the police claimed to have worked out a blind murder of a young shopkeeper in Kotranka area of Rajouri district.
On July 26, the dead body of one Abdul Rehman, son of  Makhna, resident of Kanglanoo area was recovered from a nallah. The trader went missing on the night of August 17. He was running a Maniyari shop at Janglanoo. After closing shop, he had gone to the house of his brother Mohd Gafoor. On the statement of Mohd Qayoom, shopkeeper of the same area and his cousin, the police got suspicious. The police during investigation also came to know about the relations of Shehnaz Akhtar, wife of deceased with shopkeeper  Abdul Qayoom.
Qayoom stated to police on July 22 that Mohd Gafoor was taken away by  some  people during night and since then he was missing. On his statement the police got suspicious and also kept track on his phone calls. He was detained and placed under interrogation. Then he broke down and narrated the whole story. He disclosed that he and Shehnaz wanted to get rid of  Abdul Rehman and hired two persons for killing him and when he was returning late in the evening on July 17, he was intercepted and killed and body thrown into the nallah. They were paid Rs 50,000 for the task.
On this, the police arrested Shehnaz Akhtar, wife of deceased, Abdul Qayoom, son of Shah Mohd of Janglanoo and hired man Mohd Aslam, son of Mohd Din hailing from Maloot Kanthol. Another hired man, Mohd Shafia, son of Noor Mohd was evading arrest. The police also recovered Rs 22,500 cash out of Rs 25000 as his share from Mohd Aslam.  DySP Operations Aijaz Sheikh and SHO Kotranka Mohd Rafiq worked out the case.
