JAMMU, Mar 26: The Government today admitted that Environment, Wildlife and Forest clearance besides the local litigation, were the main hurdles being faced in the delay of Rs 19 crore Mubarak Mandi-Bahu Fort Rope way project.
Minister incharge Tourism Ghulam Ahmed Mir while replying to the question of NC legislator, Ajatshatru Singh in the Legislative Council said that Governmnt has allotted an amount of Rs 19 crore for the execution of Mubarak Mandi-Bahu Fort-Mahamaya Devi Ropeway project across river Tawi in Jammu city.
M/s Damodar Ropeway Infrastructure Pvt Ltd from Kolkata has been selected in the tendering process supported by RITES India Ltd. The letter of intent has been issued in the favour of firm. The Power Development Department has started work on realignment of their infrastructure. Rs 82.58 lakh has also been provided to PDD for the same by the Cable Car Project Corp. Besides this, an amount of Rs 186 lakh has been kept at the disposal of AC Rvenue Jammu for the disbursement of compensation among the private land owners at Shahbad near Bahu Fort for acquisition of acquired land. A case was also pending in the High Court in this regard and it is being persued by the department.
Replying to another question, regarding delay, the minister said environment, wild life, forest clearance were the other hurdles which are needed to be cleared. As and when these obstacles are over, the work will be executed on the project fully. Mr Mir, however, remained non-committal on the completion of the project. He hoped that within one year these obstacles will be over. Congress member Jugal Kishore asked what was the fate of Patnitop ropeway project which was pending for the last 7-8 years.
The minister further disclosed that ropeway projects at Shivkhori and Partnitop were under active consideration of the Government. He said both projects ( Patnitop and Shivkhori) were on the priority of the Government and they will be executed after clearance of all the hurdles.
