SAMBA, Feb 6: The leopard who was entangled in a net in the forest of Mananu village in district Samba was rescued by the team of Wildlife and Forest Department today and taken to Wildlife Sanctuary, Manda, Jammu.
According to report, the local people in the morning heard the roaring sound of the leopard in the forest adjacent to their village. They rushed towards the forest area where they saw a leopard was entangled in the net. The people informed the local Sarpanch, Sunil Choudhary and he later informed the officials of Wildlife and Forest Department. After receiving the information a team of the Departmental officials reached the spot and rescued the leopard and took it with them.
While talking with media persons, Dr. Ranjit Katoch, of Wildlife Department said “In the morning we got a call from Wildlife Warden, Kathua that a leopard was trapped in the Samba area. We rushed towards the spot and after seeing that the leopard is trapped in a net, we with the help and support of our team rescued it and took it to Manda. The leopard was also injured and we gave him the medicines and other first aid”.
Besides, Dr. Ranjit Katoch, Range Officer Sanjeev and other personnel accompanied him in the rescue operations. Later talking to Excelsior DFO Shehzad Choudhary said that leopard is safe and has been kept at Manda Wildlife Sanctuary. He said the wild animal was entangled in the net laid by the people in the forest area.
