JAMMU, Sep 15: Er Gulam Ali Khatana, a prominent social activist and Gujjar leader from Jammu & Kashmir who was recently nominated to Rajya Sabha today said that he has been selflessly working for the welfare of people and maintaining communal harmony in the state as well as at national level, and he will continue to serve people with renewed zeal.
Khatana was speaking during a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Unity Foundation (JKUF) to felicitate him on his nomination as a member of Rajya Sabha. Prominent personalities from all walks of life including Balwant Singh Mankotia (Ex-MLA), Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, Gourav Gupta (general secretary, Chamber of Commerce and Industries), Zorawar Singh Jamwal (chairman Team Jammu and vice president, Press Club Jammu) and Parag Abrol (general secretary, Traders Federation) attended the function.
All the speakers termed Er Khatana as the true son of the soil who toiled for more than 30 years day and night and gave his sweat and blood for the upliftment of the people of J&K, especially Jammu region. They recognized his contribution for the establishment of Jammu College of Engineering Technology (now GCET), Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, SKUAST-Jammu and MBBS/BDS agitation in 1998.
Speakers said that Er Khatana launched various agitations during his student life and after entering active political life. He also travelled across country as part of his work for welfare of tribal community. They said people of J&K has great hope from Er Khatana in his new role as Member Parliament Rajya Sabha and they believe that he will work dedicatedly for upliftment of downtrodden in J&K.
Earlier Amit Gupta read the welcome address and in the end, Ajaat Jamwal (president JKUF) gave the vote of thanks. Dr Gopal Parthasarthi conducted the proceedings of the function.
