CHENNAI: Forty-plus scores by openers Hayley Mathews and skipper Stafanie Taylor helped West Indies women score 148 for four wickets against Bangladesh in their World T20 Group match here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, the openers laid a solid foundation adding 67 in 11.4 overs, before Deandra Dottin and Stacy Ann King provided the final impetus to post a respectable total. While Mathews scored 41 in 42 balls with four fours, Taylor struck two fours and a six in her knock of 40 runs which came in 41 balls. Once they were separated, the Windies women seem to be losing their way having lost the wicket of Britney Cooper (nine) and were struggling at 98 for three in 15 overs. But Dottin (24 not out, 11 balls, 2×4) and Stacy (20 not out, 15 balls, 2×4) added 32 in 19 balls to provide the final flourish as the Windies scored 50 runs in the last five overs. For Bangladesh, left arm spinner Nahida Akter bagged three wickets. (AGENCIES)
