Srinagar : Strong winds and hailstorm last night damaged fruit and vegetable crops, besides disrupting power supply in many areas of South Kashmir Valley, particularly Kulgam and Shopian.
Some parts of the summer capital are still plunged into darkness since last night following damages to the transmission lines due to strong winds.
Officials told UNI that a number of trees and electric poles were uprooted due to strong winds in Srinagar city, besides many areas in South Kashmir.
The authorities have pressed in men and machinery to clear roads. They said hailstorm has badly damaged fruit and vegetable crops in many areas in South Kashmir, particularly Kulgam and Shopian. Though, they said was no loss of life or injury.
The Met department spokesperson said light rain or thundershowers might occur at isolated place during the next 24 hours in the Kashmir Valley. The day temperature in the Srinagar has improved which witnessed fresh spell of rains. The night temperature in Srinagar was 12.5 degrees, two notches above normal. (Agencies)
