Windstorm wreaks havoc in south Kashmir villages

SRINAGAR, July 17: The overnight windstorm caused massive damage to orchards, residential houses and vehicles in dozens of villages in south Kashmir’s Anantnag and Kulgam districts.
Local residents told Excelsior that the windstorm hit Matipora, Aung, Namil, Nowbugh, Veeri, Guree, Ashimuji Ban, Mallapora, Nipora, Waltengo, Shamspora and Nowpora villages of the twin districts.
They said that dozens of rooftops were destroyed by the windstorm while as the vehicles were also damaged.
The windstorm caused intense damage to the orchards filled with apples and uprooted hundreds of trees, the locals said. The windstorm created fear and panic among residents and confined them to their houses. The power supply was also hit due to the windstorm and was restored early this morning. Apart from windstorm, the thunders and lightening also instilled fear among locals.
