JAMMU, July 29: While Jammu city is steadily getting facilities of Smart City, Guru Nanak Nagar area here is reeling under dark for the last 50 days as about 200 of the installed street lights in the area have turned non-functional.
Inder Singh Soodan, Councillor of Ward number 44 (Guru Nanak Nagar) informed that he and many other residents of the area have repeatedly complained to the concerned EESL company but nothing has been done in this direction so far.
“Till the repair and other issues of these lights were managed by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), all was well but since the EESL has been allotted the work, there is hue and cry from across the city in this regard,” Soodan said.
He further said that people of the area are facing problems in moving out during evening hours as there are only a few functional street lights.
“It is rainy season and there is risk of snakes and sometimes many elders have fallen in dark,” the JMC Councillor claimed adding that there is equal risk of snatching and thefts due to dark.
“While PM Modi is working hard for the welfare of our country, a handful of officers have become habitual of not attending to public grievances. So the concerned authorities should act tough against such officers so that the public may heave a sigh of relief,” Soodan continued.
