JAMMU, Sept 25: The Jammu Chamber of Industry and Commerce (JCCI) has urged upon the State Governor Satya Pal Malik to withdraw the high percentage of one time tax on the purchase of motor vehicles in the J&K state.
Talking to media-persons here today, president of the JCCI, Rakesh Gupta said that Chamber had been assured by the Governor on the issue during their meeting in Srinagar along with the Transporters’ body that decision in this regard will be taken shortly. But they were waiting for the positive outcome of the meeting. On the request of the Administration the Chamber and transporters bodies had withdrawn the bandh/ strike call as well.
Gupta appealed to the State Governor that on the eve of Navratras the people were waiting for withdrawal of this high tax so that as per traditions the people at large could purchase new vehicles which shall not be possible unless SRO 492 is amended or withdrawn. The JCCI president expressed hope that Governor would keep in mind the sentiments of the people at large and also the deteriorating economy of the State.
The Jammu Chamber president also urged upon the Governor to consider restoring internet facilities in those parts of the State where there was totally no law and order problem after consulting the concerned security agencies. He also requested the Governor’s Administration to consider the running business losses accumulating due to non-availability of internet facilities.
While referring to the achievements of security forces for arresting militants allegedly involved in Kishtwar killings in the recent past, JCCI urged upon the DGP that the matter should be thoroughly probed and ascertained that who were the political and non-political forces sheltering the arrested militants and also be brought to book under law.
The other JCCI office bearers, Rajesh Gupta, Rajeev Gupta, Manish Gupta and Gourav Gupta also accompanied.
