Masks made mandatory in 4 districts

JAMMU, July 19: Two persons including a woman died of COVID-19 while fresh cases today crossed 300 as four districts in Jammu and Kashmir made wearing of masks mandatory due to surge in the viral infections.
Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu Principal Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma said by this evening, there were 13 COVID admissions in the hospital while four pregnant women, who have tested positive for the virus, were admitted in Maternity and Childcare Hospital at Gandhi Nagar.
“People should wear masks and follow other COVID related SOPs,” she said.
Dr Sharma said a number of Health workers have also tested positive for COVID-19 during last couple of days.
A 75-year-old woman hailing from Patel Nagar in Kathua district die of co-morbidities and COVID-19 at PGI Chandigarh while a 68-year-old man from R S Pura in Jammu district succumbed to the virus and ailments at Fortis Hospital in Noida.
The latest casualties have taken Corona toll in Jammu region to 2335 and that of Jammu and Kashmir to 4760.
Jammu district topped with 1228 COVID deaths in Jammu region followed by Rajouri 249, Kathua 168, Udhampur 147, Doda 144, Samba 125, Poonch 110, Ramban 69, Reasi 49 and Kishtwar 46.
Jammu and Kashmir today reported 333 COVID positive cases including 187 in Jammu division and 146 in Kashmir.
Jammu district topped with 137 fresh cases followed by 20 in Udhampur, 14 in Samba, nine Kathua, three Rajouri and two each in Doda and Kishtwar districts.
Jammu and Kashmir now has 1402 active positive cases including 801 in Jammu region and 601 in Kashmir valley.
Jammu district has highest number of 640 active positive cases in Jammu region followed by 62 in Udhampur, 37 Kathua, 29 Samba, 13 in Poonch, eight Doda, six Rajouri, four Kishtwar and two in Reasi district. Ramban district has no active cases.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 13 COVID positive cases, all in Leh district.
Leh now has 75 active positive cases while Kargil district in Ladakh is Corona-free.
In view of surge in COVID positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the district administration of Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora and Ramban have made wearing of masks by the people mandatory.
