2753 samples taken in Udhampur

JAMMU, May 5: With 28,000 stranded people of Jammu and Kashmir returning from various States in the recent past, three more persons including a woman, two of whom were among the returnees, tested positive for COVID-19 today taking tally of the Jammu region to 65 and active cases to 11.
Of three cases, two were reported from Jammu district and another from Udhampur district.
A 55-year old woman of Gurha, Bakshi Nagar in Jammu who had become symptomatic after return of her husband, a truck owner from New Delhi few days back, has been tested positive for Coronavirus. She had visited the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu with symptoms of cough, fever etc and was sent for sample testing, which came positive.
Immediately thereafter, her husband, who had returned from New Delhi, son, daughter, son-in-law and other family members were isolated by the Bakshi Nagar police teams led by SDPO Amit Sharma and SHO Karan Chalotra. They will be subjected to sample testing.
The woman, who has been admitted in the Chest Diseases Hospital Bakshi Nagar, tried to hide travel history of her husband saying she developed cough due to rain. However, doctors said, she was symptomatic and had called her daughter at home. Her contact tracing is on to isolate them and subject them to sample testing.
Gurha, Bakshi Nagar has been contained by the police.
A 28 year old man from village Gandey, Miran Sahib, Jammu, who had recently returned from Una in Himachal Pradesh has also tested positive for COVID-19. He was under administrative quarantine at Thandi Khui in Vijaypur area of Samba district.
A 24 year old youth from Ramnagar tehsil of Udhampur district, who had returned from Ludhiana, Punjab on April 30, and was under administrative quarantine in Udhampur district, has also tested positive for Corona.
Sources said contacts of Miran Sahib and Ramnagar youths are being traced for isolation and sample testing.
With three positive cases today, total number of Corona cases in Jammu region has gone up to 65 and active cases to 11. Fifty-three patients have been treated and discharged from various hospitals while there has been one death.
All 11 Corona patients were now admitted in Chest Diseases Hospital, Medical Superintendent Dr Rajeshwar Sharma said.
Udhampur district which had become Corona-free only yesterday has again joined the Corona districts with single active case.
Government spokesman Rohit Kansal today said 28000 J&K residents have returned from various States so far while 48 others are returning from Jodhpur to Srinagar tomorrow.
“Plans final for return of students from Dhaka,” he said in a tweet.
“Understand anxiety of everyone to return quickly but numbers are large. Please be patient. All shall be facilitated,” he said.
Meanwhile, under an initiative to bring stranded persons to their home town and conducting their tests for COVID-19, all such people belonging to Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur districts are being sampled at Udhampur.
In this regard DDC Udhampur Dr. Piyush Singla has made elaborate arrangements for collection of samples for COVID-19 test of these people. He said 11 teams of Health Department are on the job at different locations to collect samples. So far, 3287 people of these four districts have returned from outside J&K and out of which samples of more than 2753 people have been collected and medical teams are on the job to collect the samples of all the returnees.
After collection of samples these people are sent to their respective districts for mandatory administrative quarantine. Concerned districts have also deputed officers for facilitation of sampling of these people and their movement to the respective districts thereafter for administrative quarantine.
