Army Maj, KAS, SP, 4 from Director Health office test +ve
*DC’s Operator, CPO, many showroom staffers positive

JAMMU, Aug 25: Four more persons including a woman succumbed to Coronavirus while 148 fresh cases were reported from the Jammu region today including an Army Major, one KAS officer, a Superintendent of Police, staff of leading showrooms in Gandhi Nagar, four officials including CHO and driver of Directorate of Health Services, Chief Planning Officer (CPO), Operator and Orderly of the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, who himself tested negative, wife of a Medical Superintendent of District Hospital, a JK Bank official, a doctor in Surgery Department of the GMC and a Nurse in Super Specialty Hospital, an Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO), a PWD JE, one Jal Shakti official, another staff member of Narayana Hospital Katra, two more workers of Chenab Textile Mills (CTM) Kathua, five persons from Chatha, three of a family in Buta Nagar, a couple each from Sainik Colony and Shiv Nagar, woman and her two-year-old female baby from Preet Nagar, three persons from Gandhi Nagar and four members of a family in Nowshera, Rajouri.
Of today’s four deaths in Jammu region, two were reported from Bakshi Nagar.
A 63-year-old man from Bakshi Nagar suffering from Community Acquired Pneumonia and Coronavirus, who was admitted in the GMC Jammu yesterday, died this morning, Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said, adding that another 60-year-old man from Shopping Centre Bakshi Nagar who was admitted in the hospital on August 23 due to co-morbidity died this afternoon and tested positive for COVID-19.
This was the third Corona death from Bakshi Nagar during last two days.
A 58-year-old man from Nagbani having multiple ailments who was admitted in the GMC Jammu since August 21 died tonight and tested positive for the virus.
A 42-year-old woman from Dhar Dugnoo in Billawar tehsil of Kathua district, who was admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua with anemia and jaundice and was subsequently tested positive for COVID-19, died late last night, District Magistrate Kathua OP Bhagat told the Excelsior. He said the body was sent to the village and cremated there as per the COVID protocol.
In random sampling through Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) drive conducted at three places including Gole Market Gandhi Nagar, Kabir Basti near Bus Stand and Directorate of Health Services by the Health Department, 34 persons were tested positive.
Fifteen persons were tested positive at Gole Market including three from Rakesh Jewellers and one each from Pargal Shop, Just Blue, Mobile Décor and Sheetal Fabric.
In the office of Directorate of Health Services, driver of Director Health Dr Renu Sharma, a female Community Health Officer (CHO), one Female Multi Purpose Health Worker and an Orderly in the office of Chief Accounts Officer (CAO) tested positive for the virus. Sources, however, said only three persons were tested positive in RAT while the CHO had reported positive through another test.
Fifteen persons were found infected by Coronavirus in Kabir Basti near Bus Stand during Rapid Antigen Testing.
A KAS officer hailing from Bakshi Nagar and posted in ICDS Ramban tested positive for COVID-19 today. A Post Graduate doctor in the Surgery Department of the GMC Jammu and a Nurse in Super Specialty Hospital Resham Ghar have also tested positive. An official of SC/ST/BCs Development Corporation Shastri Nagar too tested positive. Five persons from Chatha, a couple each from Sainik Colony and Shiv Nagar, a 40-year-old woman and her two-year-old female baby from Preet Nagar Digiana, three of a family from Buta Nagar and three persons from Gandhi Nagar have reported positive for Coronavirus.
A total of 76 persons today tested positive in Jammu district, 38 with no travel history.
Other positives of Jammu district belonged to Nai Basti, Preet Nagar Digiana, Talab Tillo, Lakhdatta Bazaar, Pouni Chak, BC Road, Bahu Fort and Valmiki Colony.
A total of 17 persons today tested Corona positive in Poonch district including the Chief Planning Officer in the office of DC Poonch, operator of the DC in the rank of Head Constable of police putting up near the DPL Poonch and an NYC volunteer. The operator was tested positive first after which other staff members were subjected to testing. The DC has tested negative.
Six BSF jawans of 183 battalion deployed at Mandi, a doctor, two persons from Surankote, one each from Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal and three travelers also tested positive in Poonch, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said.
Of six persons infected by the virus in Kishtwar today, one was a Superintendent of Police posted in Armed Police battalion as Deputy Commandant, wife of Medical Superintendent of the District Hospital, an Assistant Accounts Officer, a JK Bank and one Jal Shakti Department official and a cobbler.
District Magistrate Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara said all of them have been shifted to COVID facilities.
An Army Major was among 13 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Rajouri district. Four members of a family from Kalal in Nowshera also reported positive for the virus in Rajouri. Other positives of the district hailed from Kalakote, Sunderbani and Nowshera. A patient from Ward No. 4 of the town was also positive.
Samba district reported 13 new Corona cases today, SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said.
A Junior Engineer of Public Works Department hailing from Rajpura, two police constables including one posted in Bari Brahmana police station, a BSF jawan, an Insurance Company official and one Cyber Café shopkeeper were among the positive cases of Samba.
Kathua district reported 11 fresh cases including eight who were tested during random sampling at Ward Nos. 5, 7 and 15 in Kathua, one each from Hiranagar and Billawar, two workers of Chenab Textile Mills (CTM) and three travelers, Deputy Commissioner Kathua OP Bhagat said.
Six persons have reported positive from Udhampur including a couple from Housing Colony, an Army soldier, a labourer from Maharashtra, a traveler from Himachal Pradesh and a youth from Serballa Ramnagar.
Of six positive cases reported from Ramban district, four were Biharis working at Magerkot, a CRPF jawans and a contact of the positive person, Chief Medical Cfficer (CMO) Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Three persons were tested positive in Doda district from Assar and Gandoh.
Two persons tested Corona positive in Reasi district including a 25-year-old female staffer from Narayana Hospital Katra.
Meanwhile, 79 Corona patients today tested negative and were discharged from various COVID hospitals of Jammu region, the highest being 30 in Jammu district, 12 Kathua, nine Rajouri, eight Doda, seven Samba, six Poonch, four Reasi and three Kishtwar district.
As per the official figures, Jammu region now has 7413 Corona cases. Of them, 1587 are active as 5776 have been treated and discharged while there have been 50 casualties.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh reported another Corona casualty with one person succumbing to the virus in Leh taking UT’s toll to 24—eight in Leh and 16 in Kargil. Ladakh reported 90 new Corona cases—64 in Leh and 26 in Kargil today taking total Corona cases to 2420 and active to 847.
