KISHTWAR, June 15: An elderly woman was today crushed to death by a speeding truck near Sanghrambhata, two kilometers from Kishtwar town.
“The mishap occurred today at about 6.30 am when the woman was out for a morning walk on Chhattru-Kishtwar highway”, a police spokesman said.
The deceased was identified as Somi Devi (60), wife of Puran Chand, resident of Thakrai, Kishtwar (at present Kuleed). After completing all medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites.
The spokesman said that the truck bearing registration number JK02R-4895, which was involved in the mishap was seized from the spot while its driver managed to flee. “In this connection, concerned police has registered a case FIR No 106/2017 under relevant sections and launched a manhunt to nab the accused driver”, he added.
