JAMMU, Mar 8: A woman allegedly committed suicide today by consuming some poisonous substance at her residence in Channi Himmat and gave poison to her 15-year-old daughter who is battling with the life in the hospital.
Quoting husband of the deceased, a police official said, Sangeeta Gupta (47) wife of Sanjay Gupta, resident of Sector 3 of Channi Himmat, and her 15-year-old daughter namely Bhavika Gupta were found in unconscious condition at their residence this afternoon by her husband when he came home from his shop to have afternoon meal.
He said both mother and daughter were immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu and SMGS Hospital, Jammu, respectively but the woman was declared as brought dead by the doctors while the condition of the girl was also serious.
“The woman was in depression since death of her only son in a road mishap last year. Prima facie, it appears that she consumed some poisonous substance and also gave the same to her daughter,” the official said, adding the body of the woman was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites after getting conducted postmortem while Channi Himmat police has taken cognizance of the matter.
