Srinagar, June 22: A woman today died at Lal Ded Hospital, Srinagar after she delivered a baby after undergoing LSCS. The death sparked protests at the hospital with the family members resorting to vandalism.
Eyewitnesses said that family members of the woman assembled within the premises of the hospital in a bid to register their protest.
The family has alleged negligence on part of the doctors while also accusing the hospital administration of not providing the patient with blood after she starting losing it post LSCS.
The woman has been identified as Rubeena wife of Mushtaq Ahmed Bhat, of Lolpora, Tangmarg of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The family members said that the hospital administration failed in arranging the blood on time. “If they knew that the patient was high risk, they should have arranged the blood well in time,” they said.
As per officials, the woman was referred to LD last night. The patient underwent LSCS and suffered Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH), resulting in excessive bleeding and ultimately dying of cardiac arrest.
Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH) is defined as blood loss exceeding 500 milliliters (mL) following a vaginal birth and 1000 mL following a cesarean.
“In PPH the uterus fails to contract after LSCS and same has happened in this case as well; she has suffered excessive bleeding resulting in the death of the patient,” a doctor said.
As per the initial reports that have been given in this regards, after the PPH, the doctors attending the patient-and those performed the surgery did this their best to revive the patients. However, they could not succeed in saving her.
The officials said that family members had arranged some blood and “we had our own spare blood as well but the fact remains that her bleeding did not stop leading to death following a cardiac arrest.”
The hospital administration has also accused the family members of resorting to vandalism and intimidating the doctors on duty.
