School closed in Kupwara as teacher tests +ve

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/ LEH, Mar 6: A woman died of COVID-19 in Nagrota while 79 persons tested positive for the virus and 87 others recovered in Jammu and Kashmir.
A 65-year-old woman hailing from Nagrota, who was co-morbid and positive for the virus, died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today, Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said.
Eighteen persons today tested positive for the virus in Jammu region, 16 of them in Jammu district and one each in Kathua and Poonch districts. Rest seven districts didn’t report any fresh cases.
Eleven persons recovered from the virus in Jammu district today. No recoveries were reported from rest of the districts.
Jammu region now has 52083 Corona cases. Of them, 188 are active positive while 51168 have recovered from the virus and there were 727 casualties in the region.
With today’s Corona fatality, Jammu district’s Corona toll has gone up to 375 followed by 64 Doda, 57 Udhampur, 55 Rajouri, 53 Kathua, 40 Samba, 24 Poonch, 22 Kishtwar, 21 Ramban and 16 in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, 61 people including a teacher today tested positive for COVID-19.
A 32-year-old school teacher in North-Kashmir’s Kupwara district tested positive for COVID, forcing the authorities to suspend all sorts of activities at the institute.
On the directions of DSEK to conduct RT-PCR tests in schools, a medical team carried out the tests at Government High School Kanthpora. During the process, they said, one of the teacher was found positive for the infection.
The infected teacher was immediately isolated from his colleagues while students were relieved from the school.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Imam-ud-Din said that he has directed immediate suspension of all kinds of activities in the educational institute till further orders.
Those who tested positive include 35 from Srinagar, 9 Baramulla, 4 Budgam, 5 Pulwama, 1 Kupwara, 5 Anantnag, 1 Ganderbal, and 1 from Shopian.
With the fresh cases, the number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 74,849 including 72,921 recoveries and 1,234 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 882 including 694 from Kashmir division.
With 87 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 124,089 which is 97.78 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, two new cases of Corona positive were today repoted in Leh district in the UT of Ladakh.
The UT now has 42 active positive cases.
