Woman dies in road accident, family stages dharna

KATHUA, Jan 19: Family members of a woman, who died in a road accident in Nagri area, staged a demonstration here today, seeking arrest of the driver of the dumper that crushed her to death, and ban on the movement of the vehicles through the ever-busy Nagri road.
Scooty of Suman Bala, 35, teacher by profession, was hit by a dumper (JK02BX-0944), resulting in death of the woman on-the-spot.
Soon after news of the death spread, locals of Nagri area gathered on the Nagri road and disrupted the vehicular movement for hours, demanding arrest of the driver and ban on the movement of the vehicles on the Nagri road.
The protesters were also raising slogans against the DMO Kathua and the District Administration for allowing the mining vehicles through the city area without permission.
To pacify the protesters, Tehsildar Nagri, Ananya Jamwal and SHO Nagri reached at the spot and assured that strict action would be taken against the erring dumper driver. They were also assured that the administration would look into the issue of imposing a ban on the vehicles entering the city without permission.
On the assurance of the administration, the protest was called off and the traffic was restored.
