Woman dies mysteriously, family alleges murder

JAMMU, June 22: A 23-year-old woman was found dead mysteriously at the residence of her in-laws in Mishriwala area here, with the family of the deceased blaming the latter for torturing and murdering her.
Priya Devi (23) wife of Tarsem Lal of Pakhiyan, Mishriwala, who had allegedly consumed some poisonous material at her in-laws’ residence, was shifted to the Government Medical College Jammu around 6:30 pm today, where doctors declared her as dead on arrival.
On getting news about the incident, the family members of the woman from Jagti Panjgrain area gathered outside the Hospital and resorted to sloganeering against the in-laws of the woman for allegedly torturing and murdering her.
A family member of the deceased woman told the Excelsior that she was harassed for not marrying her younger sister in the family of her in-laws for the past some time.
She said this matter (harassment) was also reported to Police Station Kahnachak, where the in-laws of the deceased woman had agreed not to harass her but they didn’t stop.
On assurance of the senior officials to arrest and punish the accused, the family members of the deceased woman called off their protest.
Meanwhile, police have shifted the body of the deceased woman to the mortuary of the hospital where her post-mortem would be conducted by a Board of Doctors (BoDs) tomorrow.
A case under the relevant sections of the law has also been registered at the Kahnachak Police Station and manhunt launched to nab the accused, who are at large.
