JAMMU, Nov 3: With one more death reported yesterday, the death toll due to dengue in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 11 in this season while as 5,944 people have been found positive for this dreaded disease so far in the Union Territory.
Giving information about the recent death, a Health official said that a 42-year-old female belonging to Gurha, Sohal (Akhnoor) area of Jammu succumbed to dengue fever yesterday in Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
He informed that as on date, tests of 18,988 people have been conducted for dengue virus, of which 5,944 turned out positive for the virus. He said that 4,464 cases have been reported alone from Jammu district, followed by 540 from Udhampur, 218 from Samba, 192 from Doda, 94 from Reasi, 92 from Kathua, 60 from Rajouri, 35 from Ramban, 25 from Poonch and 20 from Kishtwar district.
In Kashmir region, the official said only 8 positive cases have been reported so far while 13 cases of locals were reported from other states/UTs. He further informed that a total of 545 tests for Dengue were conducted today in the Union Territory and out of those 159 were found positive with 108 cases reported from Jammu district, 24 from Udhampur, 8 from Reasi, 4 from Doda, 3 each from Rajouri and Samba, 2 each from Kashmir, Kathua district, Kishtwar and Ramban. One case was also reported from other states/UT.
Giving figures of dengue cases reported from the UT in last 7 days, the official said 135 people were found positive for dengue on October 28, 126 on October 29, 106 on October 30, 58 on October 31, 134 on November 1 and 173 on November 2.
