Woman driver Pooja leaves driving, starts shop

JAMMU, Apr 4: The rural woman who became first women driver in J&K to drive heavy vehicles, Pooja Devi has left driving and started a shop in village Jandrota, 20 km away from her residence in village Sandhar, Tehsil Basholi of Kathua district.
Pooja started her own business with the help of J&K Khadi Village and Industries Board (KVIB).
She approach KVIB Kathua and got sanctioned a loan under Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme.
She was financed by the Banks under 35 per cent subsidy scheme with easy instalments repayable without any Bank guarantee making herself self reliant to start a permanent business.
Earlier Pooja remained in news after she drove heavy vehicles on Jammu-Kathua road to earn a livelihood.
She claimed that the political setup as well as bureaucracy didn’t help her to get a permanent job in driving in government or private sector.
Pooja informed that she intended to start a women driving institute but it required a lot of money.
DDC Kathua Chairman, Colonel Mahan Singh said that Pooja is a role model for other women in J&K to become self reliant.
