JAMMU, Apr 23: A woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at her in-laws’ residence in the Sunjwan area of Jammu on Monday night, sparking allegations of murder by her family.
The deceased, identified as Aafiya, had been married for just two months.
As per police, her husband, Mohammad Sadique, reported to the Government Medical College Jammu on Monday night that she had committed suicide by hanging.
Following the report, the Trikuta Nagar Police launched inquest proceedings to determine the exact cause of death.
The situation escalated when Aafiya’s family, upon learning of her death, protested, accusing her in-laws of murder and claiming that she had been subjected to harassment since her marriage.
In response to the family’s allegations, local authorities formed a Board of Doctors (BoDs) to conduct an autopsy, overseen by a District Magistrate, to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding Aafiya’s death.
SHO Trikuta Nagar, Amit Sangra, stated, “we are exploring all aspects of this case. However, the definitive cause of death will only be determined after we review the post-mortem report.”
