Heavy damage to Pak, 3 soldiers dead

SRINAGAR, June 12: A woman was killed and two other civilians were injured in intense shelling from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district while Army gave befitting reply to Pakistani shelling causing heavy damage to Pakistani troops.

An official said that Army retaliated and targeted the Pakistani posts in the sector. He said that at least 3 Pakistani troops were killed in the retaliatory attack and major damage was caused to their forward posts. He said that firing continued for several hours.
A 40-year-old woman was killed in shelling by Pakistan in Uri sector today. “One woman identified as Akhter Begum wife of Zahoor Ahmad Chaci of Batgran village was killed  due to shelling,” an official said here.

Several shells have landed in Nambla, Saidpora, Thajal, Silikote and adjoining villages and there was panic in these villages.
Earlier, a 35-year-old woman Parveena Begum wife of Shabir Ahmad sheikh of Nambla suffered minor injuries and was shifted to SDH Uri for treatment.
Meanwhile, at least five families from Silikote village fled to safer places.  SDM Uri Reyaz Ahmad Malik said that people fleeing from the LoC are being kept in Government Girls higher Secondary School Uri.
“If needed, we will open Government Boys Higher Secondary School and NHPC Government quarters at Bandi Uri,” he added.
The panic has also gripped the residents of Charunda, Batgran, Hathlanga, Soura, Mothal, Balkote, Silikote, Thajal, Tilawari, Nambla and Balkote.
And a militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba was arrested from Shopian district of South Kashmir today.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, told Excelsior that on specific information a cordon and search operation was launched last night by Police and 1-RR of Army at Khojapora in district Shopian.
He said that a militant of LeT Zahir Hussain Khan son of Mohammad Yosuf Khan alias Ameer Soab of was arrested along with one pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition.
He said that a case (FIR no 60/2020 u/s 7/25IAA, 16, 20, 23, 38 UlA) was registered against him.
