POONCH, May 27: The police with the intervention of District Magistrate Poonch, today exhumed the dead body of a middle aged woman who was allegedly done to death by her husband and his second wife and buried hurriedly without intimating relatives and others at the village.
A police spokesman said that ladies in the neighbourhood turned suspicious and they told the Karmara village Sarpanch that there were torture marks on the body of the woman and also some marks around her neck. The village head took up the matter with the Police at Poonch. The husband Abdul Hamid and his second wife had allegedly buried the body of -Shaheen Akhtar (Ist wife) , a mother of two sons and a daughter. The elder son who is 12 year old had been sent to the jungle to get fire wood by the father.
After he returned home from jungle last evening, he asked about his mother, the father told that she died of heart attack and was buried in the grave yard. The people of the village were also suspicious about the matter.
SHO Poonch, Jatinder Raina after taking special permission from the District Magistrate, Poonch M H Malik went to the village along with a team of doctors and exhumed the dead body from the grave. On the spot postmortem of the body was conducted and the body was again buried in presence of all the relatives and villagers with proper rituals of last rites.
The police confirmed the torture marks on the body and took her husband and second wife into custody for sustained questioning. They also recorded the statements of children and other relatives of the deceased. A fresh case was registered in this connection and further investigation was in progress. The police said that inquest proceedings will be converted into the murder case.
