Woman murdered in Baramulla

Srinagar, Oct 27: A woman was murdered in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district by unknown assailants this morning triggering massive protests by the residents. Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the murder.
A police officer said that body of Kundar Kour, 65, of Kanli Bagh was found lying on roadside near Jammu Kashmir Bank T P Branch in injured condition. “The woman later succumbed to her injuries in District Hospital Baramulla,” he said, adding that initially she was hit in her head apparently with a rod and then stabbed with a knife. He said the woman was going to Gurudwara at Kanli Bagh in the district.
The murder of the elderly woman created panic among residents and they came out in large numbers to protest against the killing. The protesters, mostly members of Sikh community, placed the body of the deceased on Srinagar-Muzzaffarabad Highway near District Hospital in the district and raised slogans.
Due to road blockade by protesters, the vehicular traffic came to halt leading to traffic jam. The protesters blocked the highway from 11.30 AM to 2.30 PM and demanded arrest of the culprits. After the assurance of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, the protesters agreed to end the protest and started preparations for the last rites of the deceased.
Station House Officer (SHO) Baramulla, Ayaz Geelani told Excelsior that the police have registered a case in this regard and started massive manhunt to nab the culprits. “A case under FIR number 182/2015 under Sections 302 and 307 RPC has been registered and the probe has been started,” he said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain has meanwhile constituted a SIT. “SSP Baramulla vide DPO order number CRB/Order/2015/22190-96 Dated. 27/10/2015 has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the chairmanship of Feroz Yehya, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Baramulla to investigate the murder case. The SIT has been directed to nail down the culprits and produce the case for judicial determination at an earliest,” a police statement said.

All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee has demanded a high level time bound probe into the killing of the woman.
In a statement the Chairman APSCC Jagmohan Singh Raina strongly condemned the killing of Kaur. He described the murder as gruesome saying the woman was on her way to a Gurudwara in town when some unidentified persons killed her by hitting on her head and later slitting her throat.
While appealing for calm, Raina demanded a time bound probe into the murder. The leaders of Akali Dal, GPC Leaders, Sikh Students Federation including Ajeet  Singh Mastana, Principal Niranjan Singh, Sant Singh, Dr.Joginder Singh Shan, Rajinder Singh, Prof.Tirath Singh Gurdiyal Singh condemned the killing.
