NEW DELHI, June 19: A woman who had set out to dupe a diamond merchant by posing as Delhi Chief Minster Sheila Dikshit’s daughter-in-law has been arrested, police said here today.
33-year-old Shikha Bhatia yesterday made a call to the office of Jindal Diamond in Lajpat Nagar posing as daughter- in-law of Dikshit and asked them to deliver some diamond bangles at Khanpur Chowk as she was going to airport to catch a flight.
The owner of the showroom, Siddhartath Jindal, became suspicious and made an inquiry from the office of MP Sandeep Dikshit, the chief minister’s son, and found that no such call was made by his wife Mona Dikshit.
Jindal immediately reported the matter to Lajpat Nagar police station. A raiding team was formed and the complainant gave Sub Inspector Rajveer’s number to the lady as that of his employee’s number, police said.
On reaching Khanpur Chowk, the SI, who was carrying a packet containing artificial jewellery, met the lady and handed her over the parcel after which she gave him a cheque of Rs 3,89,000 bearing the signature of Mona Dikshit.
Immediately the woman was apprehended and taken into custody.
Shikha, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, lives in Rohini along with her husband. Further investigations are on, police said. (PTI)
